Sport Club Corinthians Paulista hadn't won a major title in 22 years, 8 months, and 7 days. PLACAR magazine, launched in 1970, was in imminent danger of closing. Winning the Campeonato Paulista was crucial to the survival of both: the team with the second-largest fan base in Brazil and the longest-running sports magazine in Latin America.
